ALEX MACARTHUR INTERIORS

Alex Macarthur has been in the business of hunting for antiques, evocative interiors and transforming spaces for over 30 years and prior to that spent 7 years as a restorer’s assistant working on fine furniture. This period taught Alex how to recognise and appreciate fine craftsmanship and period furniture which remains intrinsic to his interior collection.

It was in the late 80's that Alex discovered the refreshing world of decorative antiques and spent several years working in Camden passage in Islington and Alfies market in Marylebone, in addition to showing at numerous antique fairs around the country and the Kensington, Chelsea and Battersea Decorative fairs in London. In the late 90's Alex moved to Brighton and opened a shop in Kemptown and 6 years later, relocated his business to his regency town house where he held quarteterley open houses and exhibited regularly at the Battersea Decorative fair in London. His passion has always been sourcing unique or rare pieces from across the globe and centuries, taking risks, creating beauty and drama and working intuitively to express his ever evolving taste.

This approach is particularly evident when it comes to the various properties Alex has sourced and transformed over the years; culminating in the purchase in 2015 of this derelict 14th century Monastery; a scheduled monument and attached Georgian cottage which has now become his home, his canvas and his sanctuary.
